Ayden and I have chosen to volunteer for and collect donations for Food for Hope as our community service project in order for us to achieve our 1st degree black belt in karate in November. Our family has volunteered weekly with Food for Hope since January 2017 and we make it a family tradition to help distribute Thanksgiving meals to families in need.
Let us tell you about Food for Hope and why we chose it for our community service project. Food for Hope provides nutritious meals to thousands of children in Adams County and surrounding communities who receive little to nothing to eat when they are not at school. Every week during the school year, volunteers (like us) meet to put together a bag full of food for each child enrolled in Food for Hope’s elementary school program to take home on the weekend so that they and their family won’t be hungry. We love seeing the impact that our volunteering makes in the lives of families in our local community.
We have created this donation page to help Food for Hope collect money to support their Feed 5000 campaign. Feed 5000 is an event that has brought hope and love to the north Denver area for many years. Each Thanksgiving season ThornCreek Church and Food for Hope come together to bring an entire Thanksgiving meal, including a turkey, to families that need a little help during this time of the year. This has been an unprecedented year of difficulty, and many of our neighbors need the hope of a holiday meal more than ever. The generous donations from you and others will allow Ayden and I to help assemble 1,800 boxes of food that includes everything needed to prepare a full holiday dinner for a family of 4-6 people. We will also be helping to distribute the meal boxes through the school districts that Food for Hope serves, as well as to community members who may need some extra love this holiday season.
